Botanical Name(s): |
Centrosema Virginianum | 24+ Spurred Lavender Butterfly Pea (Centrosema Virginianum) Seeds PLUS planting instructions. (Larger packs available, see drop down box below). These seeds have sporadic germination, some germinating weeks later than others.
These are perennials in zone 7 and warmer, grow as annuals in colder zones. Will self-sow for even more vines in following years!
This is a native vine whose delicate beauty is best seen close-up. Plant near a walkway, garden bench or an entryway so you can really enjoy the lovely lavendar/violet blooms. The blooms are really exceptionally beautiful, one of my favorites! Blooms first year from seed from mid-summer to frost.
Don’t be surprised if the Long Tailed Skipper or Painted Lady butterfly show up because this plant is one of their larval (host) foods. This vine grows to about 8' and will be covered with blooms from mid-summer into fall. Reported to be a perennial to zone 7, grow as an annual in colder zones. It readily self-seeds itself for even more plants in coming years.
An excellent addition for anyone growing NATIVE plants and it adds a wonderful diversity for your native BUTTERFLY garden.
They grow best in sandy, well draining, average soil and in full sun or bright/partial shade. Drought tolerant once established.
