30+ FRESH, cleaned Pindo / Jelly Palm (Butia capitata) seeds. These seeds are fresh. Larger Quantities may be available by selecting the quantity below.
The Pindo Palm is definitely a welcome and distinctive addition to both tropical and desert landscapes - but they are cold hardy, too! Its graceful form and arching blue-green feathery fronds make it excellent for pool-side plantings, as well as for container use. Hardy to 10°F (zone 8 or warmer), the Pindo Palm is also tolerant of hot, dry conditions. It grows slowly to an eventual trunk height of 15-20 feet. These make perfect CONTAINER plants for your patio or pool area, too! Their slow growth rate makes it perfect for containers or even bonsai plantings.
Low maintenance is an additional plus for this unique palm. This cold-hardy, single-trunked palm is easily recognized by its rounded canopy of blue-grey, strongly-recurved, graceful fronds which curve in toward the trunk. The heavy, stocky trunks are covered with persistent leaf bases. Large, showy clusters of orange-yellow, juicy, edible fruits, the size of large dates, are produced and often used to make jams or jellies. The fruit, ripening in summer, can be messy on sidewalks or patios, so you may want to plant 10 feet away from the walk or patio (although at my house, the squirrels usually dine on the fruit before it ever reaches the ground!).
This slow-growing palm eventually will reach 15-20 feet tall and is attractive as a freestanding specimen or grouped with other palms. Most are seen smaller than this since growth rate is very slow. They can be planted beneath power lines due to slow growth and small size.
