Japanese Morning Glory Seeds named for the Heian Era
The Heian era in Japan was about 1000 years ago, that was the period that the noblewomen bloomed, many wonderful novels were written by court's women.
The lyrics of the modern Japanese national anthem, Kimi Ga Yo, were written in the Heian Period, as was The Tale of Genji by Murasaki Shikibu, widely considered the first novel ever written.
The noblewoman were also competing with beauty of their clothes, called jyuni-hitoe(Kimono), only the higher classes women could wear these very expensive clothes and the colors were beautiful. The "Heian" series of morning glories reminds us of the beautiful colors of the kimonos worn during this era. The character of Heian in Japanese letters means peace of mind, tranquility.
